In Kagera Village, Eastern Uganda, 25 young women gather with us beneath the shade of sugarcane trees, seated on woven mats, to form a community rooted in eco-conscious sisterhood. Kagera is a small rural village shaped by deeply patriarchal cultural and religious traditions, yet together we create a feminist space where women can breathe freely, share openly, and begin to heal through yoga, conversation, and collective care.
The women we work with carry diverse life experiences—early marriage, unwilling polygamy, widowhood, and partners lost to incarceration—realities that often go unaddressed. By centering nature as a source of grounding and renewal, our gatherings provide a sanctuary where healing and empowerment intertwine with the land’s abundance. One woman at a time, we are nurturing the seeds of transformation, reimagining rural Uganda as a flourishing eco-feminist haven.
